A BUMBLE STORY

Why I do what I do….

Films have always offered me the opportunity to immerse myself in other worlds or even to sink into them completely. A good story inspires, challenges, lets the viewer discover new things and broadens perspectives.

As an artist, audio-visual storytelling is my medium to reflect and process my feelings and events of my life.

As a writer, I can make my emotions, experiences and observations accessible to others through stories.

As a director, I create space to make these emotions, experiences and observations palpable and tangible to the viewer.

Creators today have a responsibility to share, expand and enrich the lives of our viewers.
And yet we still find the same storylines and narratives. Be it, for example, the recurring love story where she falls in love with a guy who exhibits toxic behavioral traits and yet she seems to be the one who can/should cure him. In real life, many scenes with these hidden narratives would be a runaway and an absolute death blow to one’s mental health.

We live in the era of audio-visual communication. We use media to teach and learn things from each other. We often underestimate how deep this goes.

In my eyes, a good story has the potential to create new thoughts, new perspectives and therefore new horizons for society. As writers and directors today, we need to focus much more on what message we want to pass on to society.

¿ME VES?

¿Me ves? (engl.: NUMB) is a short film about a young couple and their inability to communicate emotionally. They collide to devastating consequences when hthey refuse o share their emotional reaction neither their feelings with their loved one during an argument. He – trapped in his everyday life, demotivated, full of self-doubt, feeling threatened by his wife’s success – wants to surprise his beloved with a romatic vacation to the place they first met. She – frustrated by her everyday life, full of energy and drive – feels empowered after her new promotion and is ready to take things into her own hands again.
As the situation comes to a head, they both decide to compartmentalise their emotions. How it all turns out remains a surprise…

MODEL’S DIARY

These days, when I walk through my parents’ neighbourhood and am stopped by old acquaintances or former friends, I usually hear the following:
“Your sister does have a life! I saw her on Instagram. She lives in America now?! And works as a model? Unbelievable? She’s so lucky to be so good looking!” It’s like it just fell into her lap….
My sister started modeling when she was 16. I was 19 years old back then. At that time there were already 8 seasons of Germany’s Next Model and Instagram was just about to overtake Facebook. On multiple media and in various ways, young girls were increasingly sold the narrative that you have to be beautiful and thin to be happy.
That someone like my sister would drop everything to model, I just couldn’t understand. I didn’t want her to be blinded by a world of beautiful appearances and avoidable luxury. As my worries grew, so did our conflicts. Eventually we broke off contact.
In this documentary, I try to confront my prejudices about the industry. Is the fashion industry really as bad as I think it is?  Are my worries justified? What is life like as a young woman in such a competitive environment? What are the demands and consequences of this job?
This is exactly what “A Model’s Diary” is about.
